Solano Youth Theatre, a division of Solano College Theatre, provides performance opportunities, workshops and classes for more than 500 young people annually. Each season, more than 75 professional theatre artists and arts educators are contracted. These instructors provide a cumulative total of more than 4,000 hours of instruction. Families and friends provide more than 4,800 hours of volunteerism. The curtain goes up on more than 99 public performances and student matinees. We’re proud to serve over 15,000 patrons that attend these events each season. Because of these efforts, SYT’s young people are stretching their skills and growing in maturity as well as height. The dancing helps coordination. Music helps with logic and math skills. Acting exercises self-expression, awareness, focus, compassion and a sense of accomplishment and inclusion. Equally important is imparting skills that encourage students to communicate effortlessly with their peers and the adults in the room or feel confidence when stating their thoughts and perspective. We want these bright young people to be able to participate in all team activities, projects or sports with a sense of optimism, pride and ease. Theatre teaches these things and much more. |
