Solano Youth Theatre started life as Harbor Youth Productions, founded in 1995 by Suisun resident Pam Spering with the encouragement of David Leonard of the Solano College theatre department. In 1997, Solano College, Harbor Youth Productions, and the City of Suisun formed a landmark partnership to renovate a building on the historic downtown Suisun waterfront to become “Harbor Theatre.” This facility, owned by the City of Suisun, would be managed by Solano College and would become home to both Harbor Youth Productions and the Solano College Theatre’s Actor Training Program (ATP), as well as a fully-functional performing arts center. In 2001, Harbor Youth Productions become part of the Solano College theatre program, changing its name to Harbor-Solano College Youth Conservatory to reflect the new relationship. Over the next two years, HSCYC expanded its operations to offer its programs in two new cities, doubling enrollment and growing in both size and scope. Finally, in 2003, HSCYC changed its name (for the last time, we hope!) to “Solano Youth Theatre,” to clarify our mission as well as reflect our goal of presenting quality theatre programming to young people in every corner of Solano County. We look forward to many more years of making terrific theatre with local kids and their families. |
