Jobs at SYT
SYT programs require the services of an army of talented individuals
in order to make our ambitious class, rehearsal and performance calendar
possible. These can be divided into two groups: permanent employees,
and part-time employees and contractors who work with us on a show by
show basis.
We hire part-time staff in three different ways: as Solano College adjunct
faculty, as part-time employees, and as independent contractors.
Adjunct Faculty (Directors, and some Music Directors & Choreographers):
In order to qualify, you must possess one of the following:
1. A Master’s Degree in Drama, Theatre, or Performance (performance degree
may be in music or dance), OR
2. A Bachelor’s in Drama/Theatre/Performance plus a Master’s in
Speech, Literature, or Humanities, OR
3. A Bachelor’s in Drama/Theatre/Performance plus 24 hours of graduate
level work in any of the above, OR
4. A Bachelor’s in Drama/Theatre/Performance plus “eminence” in
the field of Drama/Theatre/Performance, which means that you have at least
six documented years of professional experience and/or college teaching experience
in your subject area.
If this is you, and you can successfully jump through a bunch of administrative
hoops (application, interview w/brief teaching demo, and reference checks)
you’ll become part of the theatre program’s adjunct faculty “pool.” This
means you are now officially qualified to teach any course within the theatre
program as adjunct faculty, and at a pay rate that is better than what we are
able to pay part-time employees or independent contractors. Getting into the
pool is not a guarantee of work – it just means that if we do offer you
an adjunct faculty assignment, and you choose to take it, you’ll be teaching
as an “Instructor of Record” at a higher pay scale. The Adjunct
Faculty application/interview process is held two to three times a year, and
is conducted via Solano College’s Human Resources Office. The official
job listing is part of the College’s website. Click here to learn more.
Part-Time Employees (Stage Managers, Site Managers, Assistant Directors,
Fight Directors, some Music Directors and Choreographers): These individuals
provide services at SYT rehearsal and performance sites and are paid
a set stipend per project.
Independent Contractors (Scenic Designers, Lighting Designers, Costume/Makeup/Hair
Designers, Sound Designers, Music Composers/Arrangers, Playwrights):
These individuals work for a set fee to independently create designs
that are executed by the production staff.
